Pawleys Island
Pawleys Island, SC is located between Charleston & Myrtle Beach, along the eastern coastline. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, and by the Waccamaw River further inland. Pawleys Island proper is about 3 miles long, and about a quarter of a mile wide. It sounds small because it has since grown and now includes the land bordering the Waccamaw River. There is a picturesque marsh that separates the true island (Pawleys Island Proper) from the other portion of Pawleys Island. Highway 17 is the landmark used as the invisible border between the eastern and western portions of Pawleys Island. Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington State Park borders the northern portion of Pawleys Island before you enter Murrells Inlet. Debordieu Colony is the furthest developed subdivision of Pawleys Island to the South, with much of the land around it undeveloped. Highway 17 is the main road, and runs straight through Pawleys Island. Its convenient location allows for easy travel to popular destinations like Charleston, SC, which is about a 90 minute drive to the south, or a 45 minute drive to Myrtle Beach.
