Pawleys Island named by National Geographic as one of its Best Summer Trips 2012

What makes Pawleys Island so special?  Ask the National Geographic - which added Pawleys Island to the list of Best Summer Trips 2012, among other great places throughout the world.   There is a great write up in The Sun News [August 5, 2012], which summarizes the charm of Pawleys Island.  It mentions that Pawleys offers an upscale yet barefoot lifestyle.  I thought that was a good way of describing not only vacation on the island, but a kind of unique lifestyle indiginous to the area.  Where else can you decide you want to go crabbing, fishing, meet up with friends at the marina, and then head to the beach - All in less that 10 minutes from each other?

The National Geographic mentions the Best Summer Places, but the winter time in Pawleys also has its perks.  The weather, for one, is very mild.  The seasons do change, but the change here is very subtle.  You could quite possibly be grilling on Christmas Eve!  Imagine being in a place where you can be as busy as you want to be, or just sit back, relax and take it all in.   It has taken almost 6 years for me to realize that relaxing is not as easy as one would think.  To be able to enjoy all that Pawleys Island has to offer is truly a blessing.

Pawleys Island has been a favorite destination since the 1800's, and is noted as "the oldest seaside community".  With its beautiful angel oak trees and spanish moss dreamily hanging from the branches, and the 'arrogantly shabby' cottages on the white sand beaches, along with the marshes and lush landscapes, it is easy to see how one can be transported to a different way of life - the lowcounty lifestyle.  Since the Real Estate market had it's lows the past few years, and Pawleys Island along with the rest of the nation, was affected too.  The prices did declince, which makes it possilbe for some to consider making their dream of owning a little bit of a dream - a reality.   How many places can you say that about?  This is only my opinion, but I do consider to be lucky to be able to raise a family here and enjoy what this great and amazing place has to offer.
