There are several premium golf courses in the area to choose from. Murrells Inlet is home to the golf course, Tournament of Players Club, which opened February of 1999. Many golf courses have on-site condos available to golf groups. Condos, villas and townhomes are offered at Prince Creek, the community that surrounds the TPC golf course. The magnificent Tournament Players Club (TPC) hosts the Ingersoll-Rand Senior Tour Championship each fall. . A Brief History of Murrells Inlet

Though Murrells Inlet, South Carolina was not officially named Murrells Inlet until 1913, many believe the history of the little seaside town goes back way before the official naming. During the 1700's & 1800's, the land known as Murrells Inlet, was flourished with rice plantations. Circa 1863, The Civil War came to the shores of modern day Murrells Inlet causing a decline in the number of rice plantations. By the early 1900's, Murrells Inlet switched from being known for rice plantations to commercial fishing. The local fishermen in Murrells Inlet then expanded to include recreational fishing, and charged $5.00/person/a day for an excursion on 20-foot skiffs. The oldest restaurant in Murrells Inlet is owned by the granddaughter of Captain Bill Oliver who piloted the boats into the fishing village.

During the Great Depression, Archer Milton Huntington from New York came to the area, spending millions of dollars developing his 9,000-acre homestead and gardens. Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens was once part of his massive plantation. Archer Huntington, stepson of Colis Huntington, was one of four men who built the Transcontinental Railroad. Huntington also built a church, medical clinic and community center in the area, which helped to boost the struggling economy at the time.
